PHOTO RETOUCHING

Technical Specifications:

Colors: CMYK or RGB (which ever will print better); output type: bitmap; file format: psd (unflattened); images: scanned at 300 spi; size: size of the photo; prints: the before and after images; class presentation: printed, mounted on a black board, signed with a write-up.

Preparation:

1. Schedule your work 2. Look through old and recent photographs in your family albums. Find a photo that has cracks, smudges, scratches, stains or is faded or otherwise in bad shape. The photo can be black and white or color. You can damage a picture yourself if you have to. 4. Review class notes and projects. 5. Read "Adobe Classroom in a Book" ch. 5-12. 6. Watch video clips from the blackboard.

Work in progress:

1.Make the best possible scan. Scan the selected photo at 300 spi, RGB color, full size. Saved it in a TIFF format. 2. Print the scanned image. 3. Crop, trim, or rotate the digital version of the scanned photo. You may delete parts of the photo that detract from what you think it should show. In other words, at first improve the overall quality of the photo as much as you can without using photo correction tools. 4. Fix the blemishes and touch up the photo as necessary, using tools learned during the class photo correction tools such as the Clone Stamp, Healing Brush and Patch tools. 5. Other tools that will help with smaller touch-ups are the Blur, Sharpen, Smudge, Blur and Dodge tools. 6. Use adjustments including levels, curves, brightness/contrast and color modifications. Use separate layers for each adjustment you make. By making each adjustment on a separate layer you have more control over the appearance of your photo. 7.If you want adjustments to affect only certain layers of your image, group layers together (Alt+click between layers). 8.Your final image should have at least 8, if not many more layers 9.Save your final image as an unflattened Photoshop document. 10.Print it on photo quality glossy paper.
